I have been working on this original “Kayak Quilt” for about a year. Every piece was cut freehand and sewed with curved seams. The seats were done with black fabric backed with fusible web (“Heat n Bond Lite”, to be exact.) The bungee cords/ tie down ropes were made of black embroidery floss which I zigzagged over using black Sulky rayon thread.
I must think about kayaks a lot, because I kept wanting to make a kayak quilt. My husband owns 9 kayaks, and loans them out to youth groups in our church. The kayaks are stored under a shed out in our pasture, and I can see them out my kitchen window.
I saw this photo of kayaks in a sporting goods catalog, and used it to help me put the cords and seats on my fabric kayaks.
