What are people saying about Amy?Comments about Amy’s Precision Impaired Methods i just viewed your quilts in the quilt gallery and read your bio. You inspire me and I wanted to say "thanks". I hope to one day be as self-assured and confident as you seem. Your quilts are great. This is exactly the way i like to create but have done little because I always thought I had to stick to the "rules" of quilting, writing, painting, sewing and creating in general. I'm a little closer to the "truth" after having viewed your work. Thanks again - Ann H. I attended your lecture …and was really inspired! I've come home and tried lots of new things and am enjoying being freed from convention- which I did not even realize I was suffering under. Thanks. -Heidi S. Comments about Amy’s “Make an Appointment” Quilt I felt compelled to write after seeing your quilts and just wanted to say how awesome they are and how amazingly creative and prolific you are! I came back to the show on friday with my mom, two of my sisters, two aunts and two uncles to view the quilts and shop a bit. I wanted to tell you that out of all the quilts there my mom was so attracted - Loved! - your yellow "house" make an appointment quilt. She called each of us over individually to look, and she herself went back three or four times and just looked and looked and looked at your work. Iwatched her stand in front of your quilt with a smile and taking it all in - it truly is an amazing work of art - so bright and fun. She said it should have taken all top honors in the show that out of everything it was her very favorite. -Mary L. I saw your quilt at Houston this year and it was my favorite! I love its message and your whimsical style! I too love to do "liberated" piecing and applique techniques, as I hate math and the constraints of traditional piecing. I've been doing it for a couple of years now and don't think I'll ever go back. How do you get so much accomplished with six children? -Maria P. I would like to say I love all of your quilts but this one has to be myfavorite. …By the way, my top 3 favorite phrases you included are: avoid Martha Stewart, give up completely, and find keys for husband (I am thinking youprobably could have added a few more husband phrases)...If I lived closer I would definitely come to a class - I like your free style, less stress methods. -Donna L. Amy Stewart Winsor's whimsical "Appointment" caught the imagination and funny bone of the group I was with. They all nodded sagely. -Barb D. I am so glad I could see this quilt in person. I dragged two of the ladiesdriving with us, back to see it…They stood there and read, and each started to chuckle. It was great fun. -Barb I love your quilt. I stood in front of it for a long time both in Paducah and Houston. It's simply wonderful. It brings a smile every time I think about it. -Robin I am one of the many major fans of that quilt. You and that quilt inspired me to make art quilts and to enjoy quilting. I didn't know that quilting could be so free and liberating and wonderful. -Sonja I went to your website and I LOVE your use of color and was totallydelighted with your Make an Appointment quilt! Personally I think some quilters take themselves way too seriously and it's fun to see some humor! You go, girl! -Lyn S. When i read your artist statement hanging with your quilt, and found out that that quilt was one of the two that were damaged in houston I was amazed! I read about that at the time and really felt for the two of you who were affected - how awful! well, needless to say, you did a remarkable job repairing that quilt - amazing! I can't imagine having that happen. That quilt was so awesome! I loved all your embellishments, the fancy, creative and very different houses, and your choice of colors, placement and everything - bravo! -Mary L. Comments about Amy’s “Opera Quilt” “The glory of Winsor’s work is in the details.” -Raleigh News and Observer, March 5, 2003, “A Quilt to Sing About” by Caitlin Cleary. I have just seen the finished product and want to congratulate you on a great job! I hope the opera company is happy with what you did because I think you have captured the operas depicted and the sense of the founder very well. Great work and congratulations!!! -Kathy B. You did a great job with the Opera Quilt. You did very well at getting to the essence of each opera, choosing a scene which everybody would recognize as symbolic of that particular opera. Nice piece of work. I admire anybody who can undertake and complete something that big. -Carolyn T. Amy -- I looked at all the detail shots of the Opera Quilt. What a labor of love! All the tiny details are just delightful. -Tomme F. General Comments about Amy I just spent some time browsing your web site and came away inspired. I am not a quilter, but I do enjoy art. Thank you for doing what you do! Wow! What can be said, but wow! -Melvin B. Mesa AZ Made it to your show last weekend - what great colors! Great splash of color in an other wise dreary looking weekend. -Jessie G. Comments about the “Encrustations” exhibit, curated by Amy in 2002 I fell in love with the Encrustations exhibit. I've never worked with beads or embellishments, but after seeing these exquisite works of art I went right to the embellishment aisles and loaded up. -Kit R. I was pleasantly surprised by the Encrustations show and impressed with the Page-Walker facility. I don't work with heavy embellishments myself, and I've seen far too many pieces where the beads and other embellishments were extraneous icing on a cake that didn't need them. So I had fairly low expectations of the show. I was wrong. Amy, you did a wonderful job. -Carol N. Comments about Amy’s Lectures and Workshops We so enjoyed having you with us! You truly were an inspiration to everyone who took your class and the slide presentation was “THE BEST EVER” that we’ve had at our meetings!!! We’re still laughing about your “sponsor”. -Judy E., Venice Florida Quilt Guild Everyone really enjoyed the day Tuesday and I have received several notes from the women there. You were very prepared and they learned so many little things. They liked your style, and several have said they appreciate the permission you gave them to just work on things they enjoy. -Karen C., Wilmington, NC I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your presentation at guild last week and what an inspiration it was. I'm sorry that because of the weather we didn't get to spend a lot of time afterwards seeing your quilts up close and personal but I've been priviliged to see most of them in shows and they are truly stunning. We're fortunate to have you in our guild. -Jane S., Capital Quilt Guild, Raleigh, NC Amy, Thanks so much for the wonderful slide presentation and an excellent workshop. The quiet during your presentation Monday and the attentive students Tuesday who stayed at the end were a true indicator of the fun, pleasure of your company and your new and delightful techniques in your quilt making. -Anne Hope M., Wilmington, NC Comments about Amy’s Quilts Amy Stewart Winsor's "Temptation" was - as she put it - a celebration of junk food! Too funny, and too absolutely true! This one was hung in the purview of the white glove lady I mentioned above, and was getting lots of explanation and attention as well. -Mary B.
