"Glimmer of Faith" (c) 2004 Amy Stewart Winsor. 25.5"w x 25.5"h
This is a deceptively easy project, which can be embellished in class with decorative machine stitching or later with hand stitching, fusible applique, or yoyos. Choose two fat quarters for the center of the wallhanging, and we will weave them together to magically produce a very complicated-looking center. Borders will be added, and the “pillowcase” binding method will be demonstrated.
Student supply list:
Basic sewing kit
Sewing machine (Note: This wallhanging can be made with a straight
stitch machine. However, if you want to do the decorative stitches,
your machine must be capable of doing decorative stitches.)
Rotary cutter and mat, ruler
2 fat quarters of fabric, contrasting colors, to weave. (Avoid white fabric or prints with white backgrounds.)
1 yard of fabric for border/backing.
Regular sewing thread for piecing, colors to go with your fabrics
Foundation muslin, (fat quarter or larger.)
Temporary spray adhesive (International Quilt Festival 2004 students don't have to buy a can, your spray adhesive is included in your kit fee.)
2 squares of cardboard or posterboard, the size of a fat quarter (at least 18” x 18”, cut from a box)
28"x28" Quilt batting (Amy prefers Fairfield Soft Touch or Pellon ThermoLamPlus).
If you want to use machine embroidery stitches, bring variegated rayon threads.
Optional: hand embroidery floss, ric rac, trims of your choice.
