I adore the speed and ease of making curved piecing, because of the great effect it has on any quilt. Curved piecing looks so different from straight piecing, and is nearly incomprehensible to those who don’t know how to make it. It is so fun to completely mystify people, they wonder how in the world did you do it? Most of the time they think it is appliqued.
I don’t recommend using curved piecing on charity quilts or everyday quilts, because it does take more time than straight piecing. But for showstopper quilts, competition quilts, and really special quilts, curved piecing is worth every minute.
Curved piecing is also especially good for making long curvy borders. They appear to be appliqued vines, but using curved piecing means that they take about a tenth of the time.
