ABOUT THE QUILT:
This is my second quilt to feature my favorite tree, a pink flowering dogwood. The springtime scene, with silk ribbon flowers and a meandering mountain stream, reminded me of the Beatles’ song, “Mother Nature’s Son”. The words to one of the verses are written on the border. “Sit beside a mountain stream, See her waters rise, Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies.”

I used two old pieces in the creation of this quilt. My very first wallhanging (made in 1986) was a traditional log cabin, completely handpieced and handquilted. I used it for the “lapels”, that hang open in the center of the quilt. (The zipper can be zipped to shut the lapels, but that doesn't look very good.)

The dogwood tree in the center was an unfinished piece I had started around 1997. Because they looked good together, I used them to create my very first “zipper” quilt.
